Community Spotlight
At fred’s we pay tribute to the people who have given so much to the African-American community. Their efforts have helped shape our country into what it is today. In addition, every week in February at fred’s, we will be honoring and featuring our team members who work so hard to make a difference in their communities. They are our Community Champions.
Stephanie does everything she can for the less fortunate in her community. She pays utility bills for neighbors in need, buys winter clothes and toys for the children, and even cooks a Christmas dinner for needy families. As a pharmacy tech at fred’s, she brings a positive attitude no matter the situation and goes the extra mile for both customers and team members.
Taprena believes that everyone’s dream is important. She works with the Dublin Housing Authority to help young women believe in themselves and their dreams. She also works with the local Girl Scouts and finds time to volunteer for the Drug-Free Red Ribbon Campaign. As a D&R Clerk at fred’s, Taprena is all about teamwork. You never have to ask her to jump in and help; she does it willingly and with a smile.
Ernest loves working outside in his yard to keep it beautiful. It’s just one way he’s connected to his community. He’s well-known throughout his neighborhood as a kind, trusting man who is willing to help any neighbor in need. An order picker at fred’s, Ernest knows a job isn’t finished until it’s finished. He’s been known to take on twice the workload.
Christopher is active in the Dublin-Laurens County sports program where he coaches basketball. He has spent the last four years both helping the children in his community learn to play basketball and teaching life lessons through the game. Christopher works in receiving at fred’s. He’s proficient, reliable and professional. He’s always available to help when others need it.
Angelique serves as a stewardess and holds the position of youth director at her church, Mount Pleasant A.M.E. During the Christmas season, she joins her church group to provide gifts and snacks to nursing homes in the area. Angelique is a shipping clerk at fred’s, but she’s really known as a problem solver with an amazing work ethic.
Shavekia is very active in her church. She relishes her time working with the church’s youth group and is always volunteering to help with the many functions and events at the church. As an area clerk at fred’s, Shavekia has a great, can-do attitude. She is a joy to work with and doesn’t mind lending a helping hand.
Kay, through her church, spends time with residents of Southland Care Center Nursing Home by serving snacks and other goodies. She also does volunteer work with the local women’s shelter once a week. During Christmas, she helps serve fruit baskets to those in Laurens County and Johnson County on behalf of Dudley Funeral Home. Kay works in loss prevention at fred’s. She takes her job seriously and goes beyond her job description to help out the team.
Nathaniel is known as the go-to guy in his neighborhood. Whether they seek advice, need help moving, or are looking for someone to help fix their car, Nathaniel is the person his neighbors seek out. He also spends time working with the youth group in his church. Nathaniel is a loss prevention supervisor at fred’s, but he does more than that. Out of the kindness of his heart, he helps maintain team members’ cars and fixes them when they aren’t working properly.
Antwoine loves to work with kids. He is active with youth sports in his community and serves as a liaison between his church and the football team he coaches. He tries to impart life lessons through his coaching. He loves seeing the kids he works with grow up to be fine young men. As a material handler at fred’s, Antwoine’s positive outlook benefits the team and helps everyone complete tasks efficiently.
Phyllis takes pride in being a positive role model for the children in her community. She is a member of the Memphis City Schools Connect Mentoring Program, where she mentors kids as they grow up to be responsible young adults. Phyllis works as a Director of the Enterprise System at fred’s. She is always available to help out whenever the need arises and isn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves to complete any task at hand.
Vincent serves in a leadership role mentoring young people in his church. He understands the importance of the election process and was very active in getting people out to vote in the last presidential election. Vincent is a director of the Battleship Program at fred’s. His work ethic is unparalleled, and he knows what it takes to succeed. He is able to pass that knowledge on to other team members.
Nakita is involved in a variety of activities. She volunteers as an election commissioner in her community. She serves as choir director at her church, and she has been recognized as Best Supporting Parent of Montgomery County High School and Montgomery County Elementary School. As an OTC expert at fred’s, Nakita understands the importance of a positive attitude at work. She helps to ensure every team member is happy, and she is always available with a helping hand.
Jessica has been actively involved in the youth ministry at her church, St. Paul Outreach, in Tupelo for several years, leading the drama team and youth choir. Her commitment to the ministry and the children has led to her being named youth director. Jessica works as a pharmacy technician at fred’s. Her attitude and genuineness is a comfort to customers. She’s both dependable and a fantastic communicator, and she makes everyone smile with her sense of humor.
Dedicated and loyal is how to describe Claude. For 43 years, he’s attended the same church, where he has served as deacon and is active with the youth ministry. He’s been married to his high school sweetheart for 33 years. Claude is so respected, he regularly speaks to the area football team on Friday nights before games. Claude has been working at fred’s for 34 years as a driver. He’s dependable, honest and hard-working. Those traits led to him being named Driver of the Year in 1998.
