At fred’s, we pay tribute to the people who have given so much to the African-American community. Their efforts have helped shape our country into what it is today. In addition, every week in February, we at fred’s will be honoring and featuring our team members who work so hard to make a difference in their communities. They are our Community Champions.
Titus does it all. As a fred’s store manager, he is loyal to his staff and customers. Outside of work, he’s an assistant youth pastor and Sunday school teacher at Living Waters Ministry. He’s the founder of S.A.L.T. (Save A Life Today) Outreach Ministry, which mentors kids to do good in their lives. He works with Focus, Inc. — a nonprofit that empowers individuals with disabilities. Before all this, Titus served our country in the U.S. Army. The morals of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and courage are evident in Titus’ life every day.
Chris works in the IT department at fred’s. He has taken the skills he uses every day and implements them in his life outside of work. Chris is a member of the Media Ministry at Turkey Creek Missionary Baptist Church. There, he produces CDs, DVDs and PowerPoint presentations for Sunday services. He also develops media to be delivered to individuals who are unable to come to service, so that they don’t miss out on the message preached each week by the pastor.
Antonio is a forklift operator at fred’s. When he’s not working, Antonio loves to work with children in the community. He shares the gospel and inspires kids, encouraging them to be all they can be. His enthusiasm connects with children of every age, and they learn so much from him.
An unloader at fred’s, Joshua is very involved with his church, Montford Shore Baptist. He interacts with the children in his church and in other churches throughout the community. He works to create a positive impact on their lives, inspiring and motivating them through the gospel.
Nick works as a forklift operator at fred’s. Nick is a long-time member of Word of Life Church. He has dedicated his time to helping people through the church by focusing on community improvement. He does this selflessly and enjoys serving those in the community.
Willie is a regional VP of store operations at fred’s. He is heavily involved in the outreach and evangelism ministries in his church and serves as the chairman of the deacon board. In addition to that, Willie is the first vice president of the layman’s department of the Atlanta Missionary Baptist Association and concentrates his efforts on trying to motivate young African-American males to become active in the church.
Gloria is a valuable team member at fred’s, working as a stocker and picker. For the past 40 years, she has warmly greeted church members as an usher at Pine Grove AME. In addition, she serves as a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoys baking cakes and treats for church events.
Sherrie is a risk analyst at fred’s, but that certainly does not define her. In her time away from work, Sherrie commits herself to her community. For the past three and a half years, Sherrie has served on the finance committee, in the outreach ministry, on the praise team, and in pastor support in her church, The Rock Church. But her passion is in the Mackenziya Bonds Foundation, which she founded. The Foundation helps educate the public about Schizencephaly, a rare congenital brain abnormality, and helps raise funds for treatment for Mackenziya Bonds, the daughter of a close friend.
When not working as a programmer analyst at fred’s, Johnerson commits his time to many organizations in the community. He has given his time to Toys for Tots, is a MIFA volunteer, served on Men on Patrol through ATOP Church, volunteers at Kirby High and Middle schools, and is a Sunday school teacher. In addition to all that, he has been a superintendant at New Hickory Hill Baptist Church for the past 25 years.
Paula works as a stocker and picker for fred’s. Outside of work, she is active in her church, Rice Hill Baptist. She serves as the youth director and also works with the program committee to coordinate the community festival every year. In her spare time, she cooks meals and delivers them to those in need in her community.
Claude is a driver for fred’s. In fact, he was once awarded Driver of the Year at the company. And for 55 years, Claude has been a devoted and faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He’s a member of the Baptist Congress and gives his time to anyone in need. He serves as deacon in his church and also teaches Sunday school. In addition, Claude proudly serves as bus driver, picking up members of the church who have a difficult time attending. He serves the youth in the community by teaching them basic gentleman skills, like how to tie a necktie, how to change a flat tire, and how to treat people with respect.
Robert is a security shift leader at fred’s. He is active in his church, Hunter Avenue Baptist. Robert serves as president of the male chorus and secretary of the deacon board. He frequently provides First Sunday Communion to the sick and visits the residents of St. Peter Villa Nursing Home. He finds joy in brightening their days and bringing smiles to their faces.
